Beauty: Soap and Glory Arc De Triumph Review

Soap and Glory Arc De Triumph Review
£8
**

Arc De Triumph Eyebrow Shaper & Highlighter
"It shapes! It shifts! It lifts for instantly beautiful brows" Unfortunately I don't belive it did any of the above! Not much to say about that.

Writing this post makes me sad...but it had to be done.
Maybe I should write a positive beauty review for once? I shall try one day.
Anyway I really love Soap and Glory products; for one they smell absolutely delicious and second the packaging is great.
I have tried the body scrub, lip gloss, hand cream, facial scrub and now the eyebrow pencil.
I simply love the sexy motherpucker lip gloss it is so tingly, glossy and smells super yummy, I tend to buy that when I invest in a new lip gloss but I always seem to lose it, at £9 its a high-end high street price.
I also love the hand food, its such a strong smell and it really hydrates my hands when they are dry and tired, its kinda pricey for a hand moisturizer at £5 though.
I also adore the fab-pore facial cream, it makes my face feel and look fresh and bright, I guess for £8 its pretty good too!
Therefore when I purchased the Arc-De-Triumph eyebrow shaper and highlighter I was very excited to use it.
Just looking at the product it really grabs your attention and how great are her eyebrows? Mine did not look like that...
Having spent £8 on this beauty buy as opposed to £3 on the standard Rimmel eyebrow pencil I really expected a great deal more but I was not happy with the outcome.
I found the actual pencil went blunt really quickly and you had to press pretty hard to have any sort of impact.
I also felt as though the colour faded far to rapidly and my eyebrows only stayed shaped and coloured for a short amount of time, I had to reapply a fair few times throughout the normal day.
At nearly three times the price of my usual eyebrow pencil I was severely let down.
The highlighter didn't do much either, you could just use a concealer, light foundation, cheek highlighter or pale eyeshadow and have the same effect.

Pros

  • Great packaging
  • Decent eyebrow colour (when it finally comes out)

Cons

  • Short-lasting
  • Overpriced
  • Ran out too quickly
  • Weak colour

Fashion: September Best Dressed 2012

So much blue! Half of the celebrities this week are wearing some shade of the blue variety, from Jennifer Lawrence in navy to Katy Perry in sky blue, its a popular shade to transition from Summer to Autumn. Lets hope it doesn't bring on the winter blues!
Top 12:

*Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior (again) this time a navy blue print dress and simple black heels at Toronto International Film Festival
*Khloe Kardashian out and about in Miami wearing a purple Rebecca Minkoff blazer, Rag & Bone jeans and black shoe boots. To me she is currently the most stylish Kardashian....
*Sarah Hyland in a floral Zimmerman creation matched with blue accessories and Brian Atwood shoes as she attended the Power of Youth Event

*Ginnifer Goodwin looking cute as pie at EW pre-Emmy party in a sparkling blue mix Jenny Packham dress and Jimmy Choos
*Kim Kardashian promoting Quick Trim in an brightly patterned Alexander McQueen dress and white stilettos-which are to be making a comeback FYI.
*Kelly Osborne wore one of my favourite prints; houndstooth, as she attended a burlesque show in a coat by Smyth

*Demi Lovato at I HeartRadio Music festival in another Topshop dress this time black with gold design
*Katy Perry wore a cute Randi Rahm cloud print dress and rocked some seriously cool nails whilst promoting her film in Tokyo
*Emma Watson also at the TIFF in a pretty blue floral dress with edge designed by Erdem and Prada pumps

*Emily Blunt looking as chic as always in a bang on trend berry coloured Roland Mouret dress again at TIFF
*LeeLee Sobeski in a red Christian Dior coat and gold belt for the designers S/S 2012 show at Paris Fashion Week
*Bernice Marlohe wearing a gorgeous cobalt peplum dress with stunning embroidery on the bustier top at a Skyfall photo call in Moscow

I was stuck between a few again. It was between Demi Lovato, Katy Perry and Bernice Marlohe, I went with Katy Perry. The dress is a great, classic shape and its the print which make it a little kooky and so Katy Perry, I adore the lilac shoes too, they are such a great shade and I think they complete the look.

Life: Blog 2

I started following this girl after she added me on IFB- such a great site-and I am so glad I did!
I am always excited to check out her latest post and because she is a fellow UK resident I can relate to her posts.
I love the way her blog is set out; professional and sleek yet its personable and fun too.
She mixes high street with high end fashion and it just works.

Fashion: What Have I Bought?

As always my clothing list is that bit much shorter than the beauty one! Although I have managed to make two outfits; just add bling and gloss to the skirt and tee for a night out or heels and gold to the cardigan and jeans for chic casual :)

River Island Faux Leather Black Skater Skirt £20
I’ve wanted a (faux) leather skater skirt for a while, I only really ever wear bodycon so thought I would branch out for something different. I can’t decide if I’ll keep it or return it yet.

H & M Berry Cardigan with Fur Trim £25
I think they sold these last year in varied shades. I love the berry/ox-blood colour of this and have wanted something in this Autumn colour. Wear with black skinnes and heels I think.

H & M Black V-neck T-shirt, £5
Who doesn't love a simple black tee? I lost my favourite black t-shirt which was from Urban Outfitters about a year ago and have been trying to replace it ever since.

ASOS Indigo Skinny Flare Jean £12 (were £38)
I do think that everyone needs a pair of jeans which aren’t skinny! These were so cheap and a nice shape too, I might as well keep for the brilliant discount!

Beauty: What Have I Bought?

Too much that's what! I'm moving to London soon-with no job might I add-so I really need to stop spending money!!

Essie nail varnish in Fiji, £8
This is very similar to my Kim-Pletley in love colour but it is matte and doesn’t have the shimmer which I’ve really been looking for. I’ve not tried an Essie nail polish before so this is something new.

Benefit They're Real Lashes, £18.50
I’ve heard such good things about this mascara and apparently its one bought every minute or something ludicrous so I decided to splash out, I think I’ll review it shortly.

Aussie volume shampoo, 2 for £7
I’ve tried Aussie before but not the volumising one, anyway it was the special offer deal so I decided to buy the shampoo and conditioner, I generally have positive things to say.

Marks and Spencer Lemon and Coconut hand moisturiser, £1 (but got one half price)
My friend at work recommended these as she hated the smell of my soap and glory one! Lol. For just a £1 they are pretty good and there is loads of different scents, I bought Coconut and Lemon Verbena

Sugar cookie candle, £5
Obviously not beauty based but have to mention it, I go through candles like its nobody business! This is my latest purchase and it smells divine

Beauty: Lash Dash

Kourtney recently released some photos on her blog from the Kardashian sisters cosmetics line, Khroma Beauty.
I just watched the episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians where they were discussing it weirdly enough. I must add that I thought Kim was being a bit of a brat- and coming from a BIG Kim K fan that's a big deal....
But anyway as previously posted the collection is due for release end of 2012/early 2013 and for anyone who knows the Kardashians will understand how clearly obsessed they are with make up! Like many of us girls! They always look immaculate and so I think its just a great idea and am surprised it has taken them so long to release, I guess they wanted it to be totally perfect. I am sure it will be.

From what I can see 'Lash Dash' actually seems to be a selection of fabulous false lashes, I'm not sure what the two colours in the middle are though but I am sure all we be revealed soon. I also really love the name too, not just Khroma Beauty but also the way they have added 'Dash' into it, great idea.
As predicted I am so excited about this, my make up selection will be having a serious facelift in the new year with Mac and Marilyn, Disney and Sephora and the Kardashians with Khroma!!

Fashion: 64th Emmy Best Dressed

It was the 64th primetime Emmy Awards across the weekend and the fashion showdown was on! So much better than recent award ceremonies where I’ve felt that the style seemed to have fallen a little flat.
Fishtail, sparkle and bustier was everywhere. I swear 90% of the female attendees wore mermaid dresses (easily my favourite shape) and the majority looked absolutely sensational.
It was hard to pick just 12 because so many looked so splendid!

Kat Dennings looked the best she has in a while in this strapless burnt orange J Mendel dress with soft curls, matching lips and gold Christian Louboutins.
Sofia Vegara wowed once again and took the mermaid trend a wonderful step further. She glittered in the deep turquoise Zuhair Murad piece and looked every inch a glamorous sea siren
Heidi Klum also looked as though she belonged in the ocean in a stunning powder blue Alexandre Vautheir dress with a  deep V and some serious leg action. Also loved the heels

Tina Fey also looked the best she ever has in an on trend royal purple dress with gold detailing designed by Vivienne Westwood
Christina Hendricks chanelling her inner Marilyn Monroe in super hot grey come cream belted dress by Project Runaway winner Christian Sirano
Lucy Liu looked sleek and slightly futuristic in sparkling Versace gown. If you saw this dress you would instantly know it was by the iconic Donatella. It has that trademark fit, cut and style.

Sarah Hyland looked angelic in the marvelous Marchesa gown she co-designed. Similar shade to the above but with added sparkle and a sweet, soft shape
Maria Menounos was stunning in a cornflower blue bustier dress with a sizzling slit. The gown was created by Oliver Tolentino and made of pineapple fiber fabric! Love that.
Padma Lakshmi in a tangerine orange dress, once again corsetted and mermaid tail, from the Monique Lhuiller Resort collection

Julianne Hough in a beautiful aqua, silver and white shimmering gown by George Hobeika Couture and matching sparkling accessories
Kelly Osbourne was radiant rocking goth chic in a deep lilac one shoulder dress by Zac Posen and matching hair paired with stained lips
Sarah Paulson in a deep grey-blue Reem Acra sweetheart strapless dress with a sheer overlay and stunning embellishment paired with bold, black accessories

I had a time deciding on my favourite too! It was in between Sofia, Kat, Kelly and Julianne. I finally chose Julianne Hough. What a star!! The dress is to die for. I actually really liked the twenties style hair and white accessories too. The colour against her skin and with her golden hair and light eyes just works. It's a beautiful, classic shape with modern additions and just cannot get over how stunning the detailing on the bottom is either. Love

Beauty: MAC & Marilyn

First look of MAC's Marilyn Monroe line!!!
It is a glamourous collection of metallic shimmers, strong reds and jet black.
The line will officially be on sale in October!!! Not long at all now.
Prices will vary from approx. £9.25 to £18

As you would expect the lip stick main shade is red; from bold berry, deep scarlet to British pillar box, there is also a to die for nude and a few lip liners to compliment the reds.
All of the lip stick tubes have a black and white photo of Marilyn on I have never actaully spied before

The eyeshadow is where the glimmer and sparkle comes in. In silver, champagne and cream all with a pearl tint the eyes will make those peepers glitter without taking the focus away from the show-stopping lips.

Nail polishes will give the eye-catching lip stains a run for their money in shades of gold, red, coral and some shimemr shades.

We also have a brow finisher, black kohl eyeliner, white eye liner, carbon black mascara, dazzleglass, brow marker, liquid liner, false lashes, powder (some pictured below)

I am so keen for this all!! I really want some of the Barbie, Disney Villiams and more of the Wonderwoman make up collection. I love MAC and this is just a fabulous idea, she was a beauty icon.
I have my eyes of a few eye shimmers, nude and red lipsticks and nail varnishes. Good bye all of my money!

Film: Movies of 2012

I have already posted about this but I have seen a fair few films since I created the post and will be going to the cinema again sometime this week.

Below is a link to the short and snappy reviews of movie I've watched so far this year. I think I have probably missed some off but will, as previously mentioned, be updating regularly.

If you are thinking of taking a trip to the cinea, downloading a movie of renting a DVD check it out below:

NYFW: Badgley Mischka

As it is New York Fashion Week I have decided to do a post for each of my top three favourite collections, as always in no particular order because I am simply the most indecisive person.
I am kicking off with Badgley Mischka.
Wow.
For those of you who don’t know I am an English Student and so have dabbled a great deal in the works of William Shakespeare and my favourite play is A Midsummer Night’s Dream, in fact if I was to ever marry I think I would want the wedding to be a  gloss and glam take on the fantastical play...
Anyway, you cannot take a look at the Badgley Mischka line without seeing the words “Midsummer Night’s Dream”  and now I can understand why, even if they hadn’t confessed that they were inspired by the 1935 film version you can see it in the pieces. Although the film is in black and white the male duo claimed this is how they envision the fashion to be had been a colour picture.

They presented the models against a wood-like backdrop of forest features, already playing up to the Shakespeare play and how smart that a MSND takes places in Spring and this is their S/S Collection for 2013. The models make up was dewy, muted and simple with soft rose cheeks, no gloss and a matte finish; echoing the beauty of a virgin goddess and nymph like splendour straight from the screen.

As for the clothing articles themselves, it was a superb oxymoron of pastel coloured wistful pieces and metallic fitted shapes. Chiffon, tulle and satin were palpable and often in sherbet shades of mint, blush and lilac when combined with the gold lame and silver brocade
However, there wasn't just dream like gowns and floaty fabrics.
Classic shapes such as the blazer, camisole and knee length skirt were given a modern, romantic twist with a rose gold shimmer and scalloped edge.

My favourite pieces are pictured below. The left gown a warm sherbert orange with stunning sparkle detail and fabulous shape.
The centre dress is the perfect mix of a an almost dull grey with the gold sheer overlay which radiates mermaid glamour.
Finally the dove grey drey shade combined with the embellishment and sheer cut out piece is the right amount of variation to complete a beautiful awards ready dress.

Badgley Mischka have provided us with a visually rewarding modern take on regal, fantasy romance.

Fashion: VMAs Best Dressed 2012

A little delayed but better late then never, right?
To be honest I was seriously let down by the fashion rounds at this years VMA's. Celebrities have one thing to do; look good and they can't even get that right!
Those I was disappointed with include; Miley Cyrus, Emma Watson and Pink- to name but a few.
I could name just six celebrities who I thought actually looked pretty. See my lame list below:

*Demi Lovato rocked another black Topshop mini dress and studded leather jacket with black shoe boots
*Katy Perry wowed in a Elie Saab black, sheer dress paired with Jimmy Choos and Hollywood vixen waves
*Rihanna was stunning in a white Adam Selman gown and red lips, although I'm not a fan of the new pixie cut

*Ke$ha looked the best she ever has, with fabulous screen siren blonde locks and a hot dress designed by herself!
*Taylor Swift gave Rihanna a run for a her money also in white, but she went for the androgynous style in a J Mendel suit and Tom Ford sandals

*Kat Graham also chanelled her masculine side in a maroon coloured Jean Paul Gaultier seeminly satin suit and leopard print bralet

My favourite was easily Katy Perry. She really makes the old school glamour style work and the dash of turquoise and red on the black dress works so well. I love that she's back to black with the hair too!

Literature: Lost Voices Review

Lost Voices
by
Sarah Porter
***
Lost Voices is a rather dark teen tale about a fourteen year old girl named Lucette who is transformed into a mermaid after a sickening attack from her alcoholic uncle.

A shy orphan with no friends and only a violent uncle as her family, Lucette has only ever known a life of misery, every human she has ever known has either neglected or abused her. One stormy night in Alaska Lucette finds herself on the receiving end of a horrific assault from her uncle which leaves her cold, beaten and emotionally traumatized. Close to death Lucette falls of the cliff face and into the sea, she wakes up some moments later and discovers she has been turned into a mermaid. Not only that, she isn’t alone, there are others girls just like Lucette who have suffered a distressing ordeal in life and have been transformed into mermaids. As Lucette begins to settle into her ocean life she realizes that her new mermaid friends hold a severe grudge against humans and spend their days singing mortals to their deaths.
As Lucette steadily becomes to feel guilty and sad for those humans they murder, she begins to realize this puts her at odds with the fellow mermaids.

I've wanted to read a mermaid based novel for some time and this is the one that stood out for me and so I really wanted to enjoy it. I did.....to some extent.

The main protganist Luce is sweet and likeable and does not seem so young that you cannot relate but unfortunately the rest of the characters fall flat in comparison. I struggled to sympathize with those you should be rooting for and found the villain(s) simply annoying and tiresome as opposed to evil. I also thought some of the descriptive narrative was out of place in a teen fiction novel and in some places felt that the entire story it was trying to be smarter then it truly was.
Although I finished the novel I still haven't decided if I will read the entire trilogy, there is something continiously lacking; in the dialogue, the characters and the story as a whole.
However the end of the book did indicate it would be heading in a direction I found much more appealing.
Lost Voices does serve up a relatively strong female lead and is, in short, a tale of morals, trust and pain, it's a shame that the plot doesn't support the innovative idea.

Fashion: What Have I Bought?

This is a post to show the clothes and accessories I have been naughty and bought...I don't tend to spend money of clothes usually on shoes/bags and make up.

Bird Print Shirt by New Look £19.99
I'm not even much of a shirt person really! I just saw this, loved the print and thought it was really cute. It has a collar too, which isn't very me at all. I won't be wearing it buttoned all the way up with high waisted denim shorts and brogues...just so you know. Probably with skinny trousers and boots...

Barbie T-Shirt by Miss Selfridge £9.50
This tops came out a whole ago but sold out so fast! I'd wanted one for sometime now saw this one on ebay. I bid on it and didn't actually think I would win-but I did! I am happy but when I did some research some people said its more of a nighty :/ Hopefully not!

Clear and Nude Heels by Ella £19.95
Yes, Yes, I finally bought these shoes. Obviously they are NO Christian Louboutin and I'm not actaully sure when I will wear them as they aren't high enough for a night out! But I had to have them! For only £20 too. I am very excited for them to arrive :)

Khaki  GreenSkinny Trousers by Primark £5.50
This whole purchases actaully depresses me a tad.....I already have this trousers but I bought them aboutt wo years and am no longer that skinny! Wah for me. I can't seem to shift the couple of pounds I need to squeeze into the smaller size so just bought the size up!Ha. I think I'll sell my current pair on ebay. TBF It's only that I can't zip them up so these new ones might be too big.....
